Music, Balloon Festivals, and Fun

Hey Hudson Valley, hope you have been enjoying the summer! The iHeart team certainly has been. Check out some of the great spots we have hit recently, some still have time for you to check them out as well!

West Point Concert Series

First off, we decided to check out the West Point Concert Series. Having never been to West Point before, the relaxing sunset show overlooking the Hudson River with the Grand Castle of West Point Academy sitting behind us was quite a majestic treat. Performed by the West Point Concert Band, the Army’s oldest band, these free concerts are open to the public and happen on Saturday nights. Although printed tickets are NOT REQUIRED for admission, they do ask that you RSVP to any events you plan on attending by visiting each event page. There are 5 more concerts left for the summer, so if you have never been, check it out! Just make sure to take a blanket or lawn chair as you are outside on the grass. The music was a mix of classics, Broadway, and contemporary, both instrumentals and singing. It was a great family event for all. See below for some great video from the concert.

Peekskill Brewery & Mr.Clifford

After the concert, we headed over to Peekskill and got drawn into the Peekskill Brewery’s outdoor setup. With drinks, food, music and games, it’s a pretty chill way to pass the time on a warm summer’s night.  Playing that night was a fun band of guys by the name of Mr. Clifford. I am not sure I have seen a band have so much fun performing before…and they were really quite good. With a great combination of sounds, and what seemed like unending energy, I had to go and look them up. This is the description I found on their website:

Mr. Clifford is a unique melding of vintage sounds with a modern twist. Anchored by funky rhythms and Synth ear candy, the band fuses retro Soul, old school Hip Hop, New Orleans Boogaloo and NYC Groove Jazz into one extravaganza of genres. Through uplifting and danceable songs, Mr. Clifford traverses many decades of music and leaves ample room for virtuoso soloing and improvisation, making each performance a one-of-a-kind experience.

Well said and accurate from what I saw. They are currently touring to support their debut release.

Hudson Valley Balloon Festival

This past Sunday team iHeart attended the annual Hudson Valley Balloon Festival at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds. It was a great day, although hot, very hot! With lots of activities happening throughout the day as well as tons of food and drinks, it was a pretty neat way to spend the afternoon. We learned about operating balloons, why they launch at 6am and 6pm (I had no idea that is when the winds are calmest, did you?), watched some magic, saw a cool bird show, listened to some music and played some games. If you missed it this year, don’t worry, it will be back next year! Enjoy.
