Lasdon Park and Arboretum – Fall Festival

Lasdon Park and Arboretum – Fall Festival

I have lived in Northern Westchester County now for the last 5 years. I can’t say how many times I have driven past Lasdon Park on my way to and from work or other parts of the county. Finally, I decided to go for a visit for the first time today. A friend and I took her son to see the Halloween train show.  What a fun time we had at this beautiful north county park. They had so many different activities to keep the young ones busy!  We started off by checking out the gigantic welcoming pumpkin head in the garden when you first walk in. From there we found our way up the path to the main house. This was festively decorated in the most ghoulish of ways, with a cool dragon greeting you in the hallway outside of the train room.  Before entering to see the whole train setup, we turned left and went into another room that was exploding with color. It was full of gnomes, elves, tiny treehouses, fairy cottages, you name it. It was a beautiful and magical display. Following this room was a smaller one behind a curtain with a graffiti-like display under blacklight. After this, we visited the train room and spent a good amount of time here. I can only imagine how long it must have taken to erect these displays, it is so extensive. There were three trains running along with two to three other smaller ones, one of them being Charlie Brown and Lucy. With so much to look at and see, your kids will be captivated for some time.

After watching the trains for a while, we went out and took a walk back in time a few million years down the Dinosaur Garden path. There were many unique and ancient plants along the path, the monkey puzzle tree being my favorite. After the dinosaur walk, we entered the land of Alice in Wonderland and enjoyed the many faces of the Cheshire Cat and the card men.

Finishing off the trip, there was a fun hay maze for the kids that my friend’s son had a great time running through. And finally, the beautiful conservatory full of lush, exotic plants, some of them carnivorous, cascading waterfalls, and even a mascot chameleon.

The park was a great day and I would highly recommend a trip. I am already planning when I will go back and just walk the grounds. Enjoy!
